Objective: To evaluate whether the GDF5SNP (rs143383) is associated withcongenital talipes equinovarus in the Han nationality. Methods: The children’s age of cases group ranged from two weeks to threemonths old, from three years to six years old in control groupaccordingly. From which we collected1.0ml venous blood sample for DNAextraction. GDF5SNP (rs143383) was genotyped using a Taqman5’ allelicdiscrimination assay on an ABI7500real-time polymerase chain reactioninstrument in80children who suffered from congenital talipes equinovarusand86control subjects and analyzed their associations. Results: TT、TC、CC frequencies of genotype of GDF5SNP rs143383incases group were56%、38%、6%respectively.; The figures were56%、37%、7%respectively in control group. T、C frequencies of allelic were75%、25%in cases group;that displayed in control group were74%、26%. Neithergenotype distribution nor allelic frequencies of the assayed single nucleotideploymorphisms were found to be significantly different between patients andcontrols by Chi square test. There was also no significant difference when thecases were stratified by sex(all p>0.05).Conclusion: Our results indicate that GDF5does not seem to be a risk factorfor congenital talipes equinovarus etiology in the Han nationality.
