ObjectiveIschemic colitis (ischemic colitis, IC), are ischemic lesions which is characterized with intestinal blood perfusion of the bowel wall casued by all different reasons. The prevalence of ischemic colitis has increased year by year, but epidemiological data on ischemic colitis is still rare in China. This study explored the epidemiological data and clinical features of ischemic colitis, especially involved lesions by systematicly analyzing literatures published in recent20years in China, and provide important clues to diagnose quickly and accurately.MethodsLiteratures were searchered from the CD-ROM database of Chinese biomedical literature (CBMD), China Academic Journal database (CHKD-CNKI), Wanfang Chinese Academic Journal, China meeting and Master Full Text Database in1992-2012. Search terms include ischemic bowel disease, or ischemic colitis. Case series studies were included, and re-reported literature, literature from under three-level hospitals, literature with incomplete information were excluded.64literature articles are effective. The demographics, symptoms, concomitant diseases, colonoscopy type and colonoscopic lesion site of patients were studied respectively.Results64literature articles included2141patients IC,863cases were male,1278cases were female,Male:female was1:1.48.Age form24to92,the average age was57.5to76.1years. The average time of symptoms reliefied was3to10days after treatment. The most common clinical symptoms were abdominal pain (n=2000,93.4%), blood in the stool (n=1852,86.5%), diarrhea (n=1045,48.8%), fever (n=349,15.9%). Complications included hypertension (n=892,41.7%), coronary heart disease history (n=618,28.9%), diabetes (n=343,16.0%), hyperlipidemia (n=312,14.6%), constipation(n=256,12.0%), atherosclerosis (n=182,8.5%), a history of cerebral infarction (n=157,7.3%), history of abdominal surgery(n=150,7.0%), arrhythmia history (n=98,4.6%). The characteristics of Colonoscopy included a transient-type(n=1699,79.4%), narrow (n=266,12.4%), gangrene(n=30,1.4%). Colonoscopy lesions were:1) the frequency of single site involved:3267affected locations were found in2141patients. Among these, the ileocecal in26cases (0.8%), ascending colon in70cases (2.1%), hepatic flexure in39 cases (1.2%), transvers colon in285cases (8.7%), splenic flexure in641cases (19.6%), descending colon in1121cases (34.3%), sigmoid colon in980cases (30.1%), rectum in105cases (3.2%).2) the frequency of multiple lesions involved:the entire colon were found in17cases (1%), single sites involved1220cases (57%),multiple sites involved904cases (42%). Among them the left part of the colon seems to be affected in74%of cases.ConclusionPatients with ischemic colitis is increasing year by year, ischemic colitis occurs in more than57years old in the elderly patients, who are associated with hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, constipation, arteriosclerosis, cerebral infarction, abdominal surgery history patients, including hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, constipation majority. Prevalence of women was more than men. The clinical features mainly were abdominal pain, blood in the stool, diarrhea. The colonoscopy genotyping mainly through type, the site of endoscopic lesions occur as follows:the descending colon>sigmoid colon>splenic flexure>transverse colon>rectum>ascending colon>liver flexure>ileocecal. Further-research should focus on epidemic investigation, early diagnosis, risk factors with long term outcome, treatment strategies.
