Objective:To understand the relationship between traditional Chinesemedicine and the original characters, five tastes and the originalcharacters,and provide the fundamental basis, we studied the chinesemedicinal herbs.Traditional Chinese medicine and five tastes were judgedpreliminarily by the plant properties, the crude drug properties and secondarymetabolites.Methods:Firstly the number and percentage of cases were established bychi-square test preliminarily,which belong to the cold and hot,secondly therelationship of traditional Chinese medicine and the original characters wasanalyzed, using the Logistic regression method,the original properties asindependent variables, properties (1=heat,0=cold) as the dependentvariable.Finally non-conditional multiple logistic regression model wasestablished by using the variables which were statistically significant(P<0.05), the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine and theoriginal characters was judged.So did Five tastes and original characters.Results: The main original characters affectting the Chinese herbalmedicine were spicy flavor, oil cells, lignans,sulfur-containing organiccompounds.The main original characters affectting the sour were fleshyleaf,unifoliate compound leaf,acid taste,cardiac glycosides. The mainoriginal characters affectting the bitter were tuberous root(rhizome),acicular leaf, bitter taste. The main original characters affectting the sweetwere cyan seed,sweet taste, white crude drugs. The main original charactersaffectting the acrid were red of the underneth leaf, lenitive, spicy flavor,oil cells, sulfur-containing organic compounds. The main original charactersaffectting the salty were herba, processing category,salty taste, irregularcrude drugs. The main original characters affectting the mild were chartaceousleaf, herbaceous leaves,herba,white. The main original characters affecttingthe astringency were thermophyte,harsh taste, tannins.Conclusion: The plant properties of traditional Chinese medicine, crude drug properties and secondary metabolites can be used to preliminary judgetraditional Chinese medicine and five tastes. The original properties whichjudged traditional Chinese medicine and five tastes were different.
