ObjectiveTo study the expression changes of high mobility group box1(HMGB1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in renal tissues of patients with lupus nephritis (LN), investigate the mechanism of HMGB1and VEGF in LN.MethodsSamples of renal tissues were obtained from28patients with LN who had hospitalized in the Second Xiangya Hospital from November2010to October2011.5renal tissues from patients with minimal change disease were served as controls. The expression of HMGB1and VEGF were detected by the Immunohistochemical SP staining in each group of specimens. Results1. HMGB1was expressed in extracellular, cytopalasmic and nuclear in renal glomercular cells and tubular epithelial cells in patients with LN, although in controls HMGB1was expressed only in the cell nuclei. Glomerular HMGB1was positively correlated with SLEDAI, AI,TIL (r=0.618,0.612,0.772, respectively, P<0.05), negative with CI (r=-0.609,P<0.05). The expressions of HMGB1in the tissues of LN group and the control group were significantly different (P<0.01).2. VEGF was expressed in nuclear in mesangial cells and podocyte and in cytopalasmic in part of tubular epithelial cells in tissues of patients with LN, although in controls VEGF was expressed little only in few glomercular cells. Glomerular VEGF was positively correlated with SLEDAI,AI,TIL (r=0.680,0.547,0.591, respectively, P<0.05), negative with CI (r=-0.469,P<0.05). The expressions of VEGF in the LN group and the control group were significantly different (P<0.01).3. Among28cases LN specimen of this research, there was a positive correlation between the expressions of HMGB1with VEGF (r=0.650,P<0.01)Conclusion1. There is a high expression of HMGB1in renal tissues of patients with LN, and positively correlated with SLEDAI, AI,TIL, negative with CI.2. There is a high expression of HMGB1in renal tissues of patients with LN, and positively correlated with SLEDAI, AI,TIL, negative with CI.3. There was a positive correlation between the expressions of HMGB1with VEGF in LN.
