Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn), one of the most well known ornamental and economicperennial aquatic plants, has been cultivated for more than3,000years in China and nowwidely cultivated and consumed all over the world. As a famous medicinal food and medicineof lotus become increasingly natural health food research hot spot. Lotus ornamental value toget a fully utilized,but the study of Chemical composition is relatively less, which restrictedthe development and utilization of this material, in this study, by investigating the chemicalconstitution content determination, The main results are indicated as follows:1. Analysis of Volatile Components from the Petals of Nelumbo nucifera GaertnVolatile components from the petals of Nelumbo nucifera in five varieties were analyzedby headspace solid phase microextraction (SPME) combined with GC-MS. This method israpid and accurate, and provides theoretical foundation for further development and use of theNelumbo nucifera resources.2. Study on chemical constituents from the Petals of Nelumbo nucifera GaertnEight flavones were isolated and purified from Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn by combinationof silica gel chromatography and high-speed counter-current chromatography. Eightcompounds were obtained and identified as β-Sitosterol (1), p-Hydroxy benzoic acid (2),kaempeforol (3),3,4-Dihydroxy benzoic acid (4), quercetin(5), astragalin (6),quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronide (7), myricetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8). Conclusion:Among these compounds,1,2,3,4,5,7,8are isolated from the Petals of Nelumbo nuciferaGaertn for the first time. Compounds7and8are reported from the genus of Nelumbonucifera Gaertn for the first time.3. Analysis of anthocyanins in three varieties of Nelumbinis nucifera Gaertn byHPLC-electrospray ionization/quadrupole-time of flight-mass/mass spectrometryThe anthocyanins in three varieties (dahongpao, honghuhongglian, hongmudan) ofNelumbinis nucifera Gaertn were analyzed using HPLC-ElectrosprayIonization/Quadrupole-Time of Flight-Mass/Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-ESI/Q-TOF-MS/MS).Six kinds of anthocyanins were identified from three varieties of Nelumbinis nucifera Gaertn.4. Content determination of different varieties of lotus of flavonoidsThe analysis method of flavonoids by combination of accelerate solvent extraction (ASE)and HPLC was established. The content of flavonoids of seven different varieties of lotus wasrapid determined, provided the reference for the quality control to lotus and related products.
