Objective:To investigate the effects of probucol, atorvastatin, aspirin (PAS) co-mbination therapy up-on carotid atherosclerosis in patients with efficacy and safety. Methods: A total of80carotid atherosclerosis patients were selected and were giventhe treatment for6months, and were randomly divided into PAS treatment grou-p and AS control group. Finally the eligible patients with complete data were73, in-cluding PAS treatment group(n=37, probucol0.375g/time,2times/d and atorvastati-n10mg/d, aspirin100mg/d) and AS control group(n=36, atorvastatin10mg/d, aspiri-n100mg/d). Before and after treatment, the serum levels of lipids (TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C), serum oxidized low-density lipoproteins (ox-LDL) and C-reactive prot-ein (CRP) levels were detected, and the carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) andplaque thickness were examined by ultrosonog raphy. Results: PAS treatment grou-p and the AS control group after treatment total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) levels were decreased, the difference was significan-t (P<0.05). PAS treatment group compared with before high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C) decreased (P<0.05), and no significant changes in AS control group (P>0.05).PAS treatment group is lower in the TC, LDL-C level is better than AS control gr-oup, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The ox-LDL and CRP level-s in both PAS treatment group and AS control group were decreased (P<0.05), h-owever compared with AS group, the decreases in the PAS group were more evid-ent(P<0.05).Before and after treatrnt the carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT), and total plaque score in both PAS treatment group and AS control group weredecreased (P<0.05), however compared with AS group, the decreases in the PAS g-roup were more evident(P<0.05). Conclusion: PAS combination therapy can modu-late the serum lipids, at the same tmie it can reduce ox-LDL and CRP sigificantl-y, the effects are better than AS control group. And can evidently intervene the a -therosclerosis developmen. Stable carotid atherosclerotic plaque requires longter-m intervention and follow-up.
