Aim:To investigate the effect of exenatide on Inflammatory factors, adiponectin and leptin in Type2diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients.Subjects and Methods:Twenty-two patients with T2DM withinadequate glucose control were entered the testing. These patientswho were suboptimally controlled with metformin and/or sulfonylureaaccepted exenatide treatment(5μg b.d.×4weeks follows by10μg b.d.×12weeks). Fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, postprandial bloodglucose, postprandial insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) andHOMA-IR were determined. The effect of exenatide on high-sensitivityC-reactive protein(hs-CRP),Interleukin-6(IL-6), adiponectin and leptinwere investigated. Results: Exenatide treatment reduced postprandial bloodglucose, postprandial insulin, body weight, body mass index(BMI), HbA1c, and HOMA-IR.The inflammatory marker hs-CRP leveldecreased from3.60±0.80mg/L at week0to2.25±0.50mg/L at week16(P=0.034) after treatment. The IL-6level was significantly reducedfrom29.76±2.28pg/ml at week0to24.83±1.59pg/ml at week16(P=0.000).The adiponectin level was increased from5.40±0.66μg/mlto7.40±0.72μg/ml) after16weeks(P=0.000). The leptin level wassignificantly reduced from7.48±0.79ng/ml to5.11±0.63ng/ml)(P=0.000) after16weeks(P<0.01).Conclusions: Exenatide treatment improved glucose, reduced bodyweight and BMI,and reduced inflammatory markers and leptin, increasedadiponectin in patients of T2DM.
