Background: Contemporary neurosurgery has from the classic traditional craniotomysurgical to minimally invasive surgical approach of individual development, andprecisely locating the lesion preoperatively is the basis of the minimally invasivesurgery. With the development of stereotactic surgery and magnetic resonance imagingtechniques, non-invasive in vivo brain structure become a possiblity.The hippocampus belongs to the original cortex in the temporal lobe the lowerside, composed of the lateral wall of the bottom and the temporal horn of the lateralventricle. Hippocampus is made of head, body and tail; enlargement of the head, bodyand tail gradually curved upward thinning, continuous with the fornix feet. Attached tothe lower edge of the corpus callosum, fornix is the connections between hippocampusand mammillary bodies of the nerve fibers, which is the major hippocampal efferentfibers, starting at the bottom of the temporal horn,constituted by the umbrella of fornix,fornix feet, the fornix body, fornix column.Domestic and foreign scholars on the hippocampus is mainly concentrated in thedevelopment, anatomy, function, and related lesions of the hippocampus,while theprecise three-dimensional positioning and morphological studies on the hippocampusand hippocampal-fornix projection in the brain of the three-dimensional visualizationthe model built has not been reported. In view of this, the study selected respectively20cases of MRI images in adult male and female without nerve and mentalillness.Analysis on the relationships between MRI morphology of the hippocampus-fornix projection and adjacent structure provide a reference for the occurrence of braindevelopmental anatomy; measured based on the Link between AC-PCthree-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system with the outermost points of thehippocampus and the innermost point of the stereotactic data sets, obtained in this coordinate system planar regression equation; build clinical imaging of thehippocampus-fornix projection in three-dimensional visual model of the wholebrain,the purpose of stereotactic surgery, interventional radiology and minimallyinvasive surgery to provide anatomical data.Objective:1.Detailed description of the MRI morphology of the hippocampus-fornixprojection and adjacent to the structure of relations observation and analysis of men andwomen left and right hippocampus in the coronal and axial mapping.2. To obtain the Inside and outside border of the hippocampus data sets, andcurve fitting to obtain the fitting equation. Explore the relationship of the mediansagittal plane of bilateral hippocampal area and the hippocampus of the lateral dot pitchin consecutive cross-sectional distance.3.Reconstruction of three-dimensional visual model of the hippocampus-fornixprojection for the minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, the spirit ofsurgery and anatomy teaching to provide a visual model.Methods:1.40cases of the health of ordinary people volunteer brain, male20cases,20cases of female brain commissure diameter (AC-PC line) for scanning the baseline linethin layer of MR scanning, to obtain cross-sectional、sagittal、coronal of2mmT1MRimages.The data with Dicom3.0format from eFilm2.1workstation to3D-the Cursor.Toobserve the hippocampus-fornix projection in continuous cross-sectional dimensionsand coronal planethe shape and position.2.(1) Male and female cross-sectional layer of20healthy adult brain MRI datawas imported Photoshop software. By Image rotation and the coordinate origintranslation, making brain space coordinate system X, Y-axis projection linecompletely coincide Photoshop software of the axes x and y on the same levelMeasuring the outermost and the innermost point of the hippocampus record thesampling points x, y coordinate values, z value is equal to the number of layersmultiplied by the layer distance, By SPSS17.0software requirements hippocampus inthe coronal and sagittal projection of the inner and outer fitting curve and obtain theequation.(2)The same to (1) MRI,Use of Photoshop software for measurement of left and right side of the hippocampal area and the distance from the median sagittal plane.3.One normal adult head coronal-sectional MRI is imported into3D-Doctorworkstation use microcomputer hippocampal-fornix projection, mammillary,lateralventricle, the telencephalon by surface reconstruction.Results:1.we get hippocampus-fornix projection MRI morphological features, anddraw the name of the label of the anatomical structures in MRI Images, We did a surveymapping side of the left and right hippocampus differences and gender differences in thecoronal plane and cross-sectional.2.(1) The lateral border of the normal adult male and female hippocampus wereconstructed in the brain in the three-dimensional space, three-dimensional positioningdata sets, as well as in the coronal, sagittal projection plane a straight line and curveregression equation.(2) When were Z>-16mm bilateral hippocampal area of males and females tothe left than the right side of the area larger,and when were Z≤-16mm for males andfemales to the right side than the left area larger. Male and female of bilateralhippocampal outermost point on the cross section, the distance from the median sagittalplane is Z=-12mm maximum distance and the left hippocampus than the right side ofthe slightly larger distance from the midsagittal plane. When Z=6mm with bilateralhippocampal innermost point the distance of the median sagittal plane were nearest,With the decrease of the Z worth from the middle of the sagittal distance also increases.3.We have gotten a visualization reconstruction model of the hippocampus-fornix projection in the whole brain, replaying their shape and location in vivo brain.Furthermore, reconstructed hippocampus-fornix projection could be made inclinedplanes from random orientations or angles, and rotated by random angles.Conclusions:1. MRI morphological features of the hippocampus-fornix projection and itsrelationship with the adjacent structure and the men and women left and right hippocampus in thecoronal and axial mapping provide theoretical support of a reliable foundation for diagnosticimaging and interventional treatment.2.To obtain the Inside and outside border of the hippocampus data sets, and curve fittingto obtain the fitting equation. Explore the relationship of the median sagittal plane of bilateral hippocampal area and the hippocampus of the lateral dot pitch in consecutive cross-sectionaldistance, These provide a reference for stereotactic surgery surgery design and the studyof brain function, so that the variation of the lateral border of the hippocampusmathematical model simulation can be achieved to improve further understanding ofbrain structures. Bilateral hippocampal asymmetry need to be further study to increasesample size.3.3D visualization of the hippocampus-fornix projection in vivo brain candisplay three-dimensional structure of the hippocampus-fornix projection, therelationship with their neighbor structures and have great clinical value in stereotacticsurgery, and interventional radiology; This model can be also applied in the anatomyteaching.
