ObjectiveTo investigate the correlation and clinical significance between serumcystatin C(Cys-C) level and patients with ischemic stroke.Methods147cases of acute ischemic stroke were collected were divided into threegroups by the volume, and divided into high risk group(NIHSS>8) and lowrisk group(NIHSS≤8),according to the score of National Institute of HealthStroke Scale(NIHSS),60cases non-ischemic stroke as control. A particleenhanced immune turbidimetry was employed to measure the serumconcentrations of Cys-C. Analyse the relationship between serum Cys-C leveland ischemic stroke, and the correlations with other parameters were alsoevaluated.Result①The serum level of Cys-C was significantly higher in ischemic stroke(1.20±0.40)mg/L than control group(0.86±0.23)mg/L,P<0.05.and the serum levelof Cys-C was significantly higher in the large infarction group than inthe middle infarction group and small infarction group,F=10.447,P<0.05.②The serum level of Cys-C was significantly higher in recurrence ischemicstroke group(1.33±0.52)mg/L than initial ischemic stroke group(1.12±0.28)mg/L,p<0.01. ③Pearson correlation analysis revealed that Cys-C with NIHSS don,t showsignificantly inverse association (P>0.05),but the serum level of Cys-Cwas significantly higher in the high risk group(1.37±0.68)mg/L than thelow risk group(1.15±0.27)mg/L,P<0.01;④The Serum Cys-C level of the ischemic stroke had a positive Correction withhomocysteine(r=0.189, P=0.022) and very low density lipoproteincholesterol(r=0.255,p=0.002), but a negative correction with highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol(r=-0.173,P=0.036);⑤Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the increase ofserum Cystatin C was the risk factors of ischemic stroke(OR=2.646,95%CI1.621~4.317,P<0.01),other risk factors were habit of smoking, hypertension, type2diabetes, hyperhomocysteinemia andhypercholesterolemia.ConclusionThe increase of serum Cystatin C was a independent risk factor for ischemicstroke, correction with the lesion size and the severity of ischemic stroke, and the serum Cystatin C was important in the evaluation of clinicalseverity and prediction of ischemic stroke.
