Alpinia L. is one genus of the Zingiberaceae, which incudes234species, and widely distributed in subtropical regions. There are50species in China, mainly distributed in southeast, southwest and Taiwan. Some traditional folk herbs such as Axyphylla and katsumadai are alsoparts of Alpinia plants. Alpinia plants are widespread in China, it hasimportant pharmaceutical value. For its really crucial to the progress ofmedicine, deeply studies about Alpinia plants have become particularlyimportant.More researches have been studied both at home and abroad for theother Alpinia plants(such as traditional Chinese medicine galanga, katsumadai, ficinarum and so on), but less researches for Alpinia sichuanensis. The chemical compositions and the bioactivity wereinvestigated. Ten compounds were isolated, and the structures wereelucidated by MS and NMR analysis. The antioxidant activity of Fivecompounds were discussed. The results can provide the experimentalbasis for its future pharmacological and biological activity research. The experiment was to extract the Alpinia sichuanensis pretreatedwith ethanol, and then extract the concentrated solution respectively bypetroleum ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The three extractions wererespectively isolated for the compounds.1. The chemical compositions in the petroleum ether extract ofAlpinia sichuanensis were isolated by repeated chromatography on silicagel, HPLC. Four compounds were gained: β-sitosterol (Ⅰ), stigmasterol(Ⅱ),3,5-dihydroxy-4’,7-dimethoxyflavone (Ⅲ), p-coumaric acid (Ⅳ).2. The chemical compositions in the ethyl acetate extract of Alpiniasichuanensis were isolated by repeated chromatography on silica gel,HPLC. Five compounds were gained: Apigenin (Ⅴ),4’,7-dihydroxy-5-methoxy-flavanone (Ⅵ),(24R)-6β-hydroxy-24-ethyl-cholest-4-en-3-one(Ⅶ), Acacetin (Ⅷ), β-daucosterol (Ⅸ).3. The chemical compositions in the n-butanol extract of Alpiniasichuanensis were purified by D-101macroporous adsorption resin elutedwith water,25%,50%,75%and95%ethanol to obtain the componentswith different polarity. The fraction of95%was isolated by repeated chromatography on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20to obtain onecompound named Luteolin (Ⅹ).4. DPPH method was adopted, the research discovered that the fiveflavonoids of Alpinia sichuanensis had good antioxidant activities. Theresult was as follows: Ⅹ>Ⅴ>Ⅵ>Ⅷ>Ⅲ.In addition, the advances about components and pharmacologicalactivity of Alpinia plants were reviewed. The results of present study willbe useful to further investigation about chemical constituents andbiological activities on Alpinia sichuanensis.
