Polygonatum odoratum (PO) is Liliaceae Polygonatum rhizomes with nourishingfluid, lungs and stomach function. It also was a traditional Chinese medicine withhypoglycemic, diuretic and strong of heart. The role of strong heart and nourish theblood will certainly help to improve blood circulation. It was used as a medicinalherbs in the diet due to its property of nature and not hindering digestion. This article provided a comparison of physical and chemical properties ofpolysaccharides and dietary fibre from streamed polygonatum odoratum (SPO) andexplored polygonatum odoratum (EPO) and its activities. Further to extractpolysaccharides of SPO with the hot water and the ultrasonic wave, the effects of twodifferent extraction methods on the structure and physicochemical properties of SPOwere compared.Composition and antioxidant activity of SPO and EPO different solvent extractswere analyzed. The results showed that comparing the yield of water extract,50%ethanol extract,80%ethanol extract, content of sugar and flavonoids of PO, SPO washigher than EPO. Antioxidant activities were different because of the different models.Monosaccharide composition, molecular weight, viscosity and a series of physical andchemical properties of SPO and EPO were compared. Neutral sugar content ofPolysaccharide from SPO was lower than that of EPO, but it had a higher acidic sugarand protein content. The analysis on monosaccharide composition demonstrated thatcontent of fructose and galactose from SPO was higer than that of EPO. The resultsdemonstrated that the molecular weight of EPO polysaccharide was distributed insmaller range than that of SPO polysaccharide. The studies on rheological propertiesindicated that the intrinsic viscosity of SPO polysaccharide was higer than EPO.Morphological analysis showed that EPO polysaccharide was rather loose, while SPOpolysaccharide was relative firm. The results of Congo Red experiment illustrated thatSPO polysaccharide had obvious triple helix structure. POPS had a low water holdingcapacity and a high oil holding capacity with a steam processing. The effects of extraction times, ultrasonic time and solid-liquid ratio on the yieldPOPS were investigated. The optimal conditions to obtain the highest yield of POPSwere extraction times3, ultrasonic time27.2minutes, liquid-material ratio1:55.8. The polysaccharides of SPO extracted by the optimal conditions was compared with thepolysaccharides of SPO extracted by hot water. Polysaccharide molecular weight, morphology and hydrodynamic characteristics were studied. The results showed thatthe polysaccharide molecular weight, morphology and rigid structural properties werechanged by ultrasonic treatment. Ultrasonic assisted extraction the polygonatumodoratum polysaccharides (UPS) and hot-water extraction the polygonatum odoratumpolysaccharides (PS), then the polysaccharides were purified by DEAE-52. Viscositycharacteristics of UPS-1and UP-1were compared that viscosity of PS-1is muchbigger than that of UPS-1. These results indicted that during the ultrasonic extractionprocess, the degradation of ultrasound cause changes on the polysaccharide advancedstructural, which also have varing degress effect on morphological properties andactivities. In this paper, polygonatum polysaccharide application was studied. A odoratumhawthorn apple composite drinks was developed due to polysaccharides ofpolygonatum odoratum (POPS) antioxidation and hypoglycemic effects. While POPShad a good moisturizing effect, a complex polysaccharide moisturizing skin careagent was further developed.
