BACKGROUND—Whether serum uric acid is related to coronary heart diseaseindependently remains unclear although hyperuricemia is associate with cardiovasculardisease risk factors such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and strok.METHODS—A systematic review and meta-analysis using a fixed-effects model wasconducts to determine the relationship between hyperuricemia and coronary heart diseasein adults.Studies of hyperuricmia and CHD were identified by seaching major electroicdatabases using the Medical Subject Headings and keywords(January2003-February2013),information-retrieval language is Chinese and English.Only case-control studywere included if they had data on the relationship between hyperuricemia and CHD.RESULTS—11eligible studies of4700adults were identified.Hyperuricemia isclosely related to the incidence and development of CHD(risk ratio2.26,95%confidenceinterval1.91-2.67).CONCLUSION—Hyperuricemia is closely related to the incidence of coronary heartdisease. Hyperuricemia has a promoting role in the process of incidence of coronaryheart disease.Hyperuricemia is an risk factor of coronary heart disease.
