Objective:To identify the sonographic characteristics of knees and lower legs in normal adults and patients.Methods:High-frequency ultrasound was used to check60knees and lower legs of30adult normal cases (16male cases and14female cases). The adjoin relations hip and sonographic characteristics of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, vascellum s and bones of adult normal knees and lower legs were described and recorded. Cr oss section area of common peroneal nerve passing by the neck of fibula and the parameter of peak blood flow rate and so on of arterial rete vascular in knee joint in normal adults were measured. The sonographic characteristics of pathological ch anges of knees and lower legs in50patients were described and recorded. Results:We’ve got multi-cross section sonogram of adult normal knees and lower legs with anatomic landmark in bones, muscles, tendon, ligament, nerve and blood vessel in this study. We first illuminated the distribution characteristics and frequency spectrum characteristics of arterial network in knee joint. We also clarified ultrasound anatomy and its significance in the osteofascial compartment crossing by tendinous arch of soleus muscle, popliteus muscle, tendon and the deep peroneal nerve. We overall elaborated the sonographic characteristics of tendons, ligaments and meniscopathy in knee joint, described the characteristics of synovial lesions around the knee joint in details, summarized the sonographic characteristics of common ailment in muscles, nerves and bones in lower legs, reported on the sonographic characteristics and its relationship of the crus deep vein and its communicating branch expansion specifically. And we also measured the cross section area of common peroneal nerve passing by the neck of fibula and the parameter of peak blood flow rate and so on of arterial rete vascular in knee joint in normal adults(36branches in males,24branches in females). There was significant difference in the cross section area of common peroneal nerve passing by the neck of fibula between the males and females in statistics(P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in the cross section area of common peroneal nerve passing by the neck of fibula between the left and right in statistics(P>0.05). We ultrasonometried mean±standard deviation (x±s),95%confidence interval of parameter index in peak systolic velocity of descending genicular artery, descending branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery, anterior tibial recurrent artery, medial superior genicular artery, lateral superior genicular artery, medial inferior genicular artery, lateral inferior genicular artery and middle genicular artery. And last we decribed and recorded the sonographic characteristics of pathological changes in knees and lower legs of50patients.Conclusion:High-frequency ultrasound as a preferred noninvasive examination can be used for knees and lower legs in normal adults and patients and it was worth to spread in clinic application.
