ObjectivesThis study was conducted to:1) assess the level of undergraduate technical school students’knowledge and related information on STDs and AIDS as well as their attitude and behavior towards STDs and AIDS.2) to carry out intervention by playing multimedia data and sending mobile phone text message among the students and to evaluate the effect of health education in different ways;3) to improve the students ability of self-protection, enhancethe prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS skills, promote the healthy growth of students, and carry out the specific content and implementation mode of health education on AIDS prevention and sexually transmitted diseases, and provide a theoretical basis for health education departments in Colleges and Universities.MethodsRelated questionnaires from WHO, the Ministry of Health and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention were adapted to design the STD/AIDS knowledge, attitude, and behavior questionnaire. In an eastern Ji’nan a technical school which offers different majors was the sample site,275out of1100students of different grades were recruited through random cluster sampling method Information about the students’knowledge level on AIDS, STD including get way venereal disease AIDS knowledge, attitude and behavior was investigated in five parts using self-administered questionnaires filled out anonymously by participants. Questions answered included sensitive issues concerning the basic situation of technical school students’venereal disease AIDS related knowledge, attitude and behavior, and the difference between different grades and majors.In September,2012, in the eastern part of Ji’nan a technical school, which offers English major, construction of nursing, professional and economic management professional courses to students, was randomly cluster sampled.1-3students’were sub-randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group went through multiple media teaching (playing venereal disease AIDS multimedia education data) and sending mobile phone short message form, for STD/AIDS related knowledge and health education. The control group carried on the multimedia teaching (playing venereal disease AIDS educational multimedia data) after health education questionnaire, an anonymous, self-administered questionnaire method, to fill in the questionnaire, collecting.Data was summarized and analyzed using EXCEL and SPSS17.0.Changes in knowledge, attitudes and practices after intervention among the two groups were compared.ResultsA total of1080copies of valid questionnairesand60was the passing score, average score of English major, construction of nursing, professional and economic management majors are68.61、73.45、68.58and67.79. Health Education and Evaluation:Before intervention, the average score of STD and AIDS knowledge of522persons of the intervention group is69.6, the average score of the558persons in control group is69.5. After the intervention, the average score of462persons of the intervention group is77.0, the control group of506persons is74.4. The score of the intervention group before intervention is significantly higher than the score before the intervention, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).After the intervention, the average score of STD and AIDS knowledge of the intervention group increased on the various professions and grades. The scores of sexually transmitted diseases-AIDS-related knowledge, transmission and the prevention of intervention group is higher than the control groups (P<0.05). Recently mobile phones are widely used, it is indicated that sending SMS is a very practical means of health education. So the future public education should focus on this aspect. The students in technical school has discrimination on the HIV-infected persons with different degrees,we should strength the education about caring for people with AIDS. Multimedia teaching methods can significantly improve the awareness of technical school students on STD and AIDS.We should continue to increase the strength of multimedia lectures.ConclusionsHealth education has a great effect on improving the knowledge about the related information of STD and AIDS for undergraduates, it can help student to get a healthy recognition towards STD and AIDS and to have an optimistic attitude dealing with it when AIDS mindless infection. Hence technical school should take student health educations seriously. The multimedia teaching and sending mobile phone short message is two kinds of health education mode for better results. Two kinds of methods with better effect.
