Song of a Pipa Player, a long narrative poem, is originally composed by the famous poet Bai Juyi of Tang dynasty. Later, this classical poem is constantly interpreted into different forms by the other people. The story in Song of a Pipa Player gradually evolves into an enduring painting theme in the process of the various interpretations; it also has the unusual cultural significance in the traditional paintings.This essay takes Song of a Pipa Player painting theme as the object of study, with three chapters to discuss the major impact that the poem has on the art of painting. The first chapter mainly revolves the poem text and the image resources to analyze the creative motivation of the historical story theme and so on, and it reproduces the esthetic feelings and humanistic concern from an objective point of view. The second chapter mainly discusses its relation to the painter and the individual aesthetic standard by introducing the macro-era backgrounds of literature, politics, and economy. And the verbal symbol as the image mark is analyzed in order to understand the creation rules of other poetic sentiment pictures through borrowing the literature linguistics and translation theories. The third chapter analyzes the image type in Song of a Pipa Player and composition characteristics of aesthetic form, and discusses the historical origin of the image language, drawing a conclusion that Song of a Pipa Player painting theme is of great value and the poetic sentiment picture with artistic creation method is of huge artistic charm. When it refers to discussion to the specific methods of transformation and image characteristics, the case studies are used.The pictorial representation concerning the theme of Song of a Pipa Player not only means a“borderline case”, but also means the universally typical case in the history of the fine arts. Therefore, it will be helpful to know more about the internal relations between poetry and the drawing through this typical case analysis, thus promoting the deep understanding of the relations of poetry and paintings on a higher cognitive level.
