Brief Analysis On Pipa Solo Thoughs On Reading The Tang Poetry Song Of A Pipa Player

In the early 1980 s,based on the long narrative poetry “Song of A Pipa Player”(hereinafter referred to as “the poetry”)written by the famous poet Bai Juyi from Tang Dynasty,Mr.Wu Houyuan composed a Pipa Solo called “Thoughts on reading the poetry ‘Song of A Pipa Player' ”(hereinafter referred to as “the Pipa Solo”).In this dissertation,the author will first briefly introduce the composition background of the Pipa Solo “Thoughts on reading the poetry Song of A Pipa Player” as well as the poetry “Song of A Pipa Player”,trying to analyze the Pipa Solo from the perspective of poetry and re-interpret the poetry from the connotation of the Pipa Solo.This dissertation will give a critical review of the Pipa Solo from the prospective of performance skills and technique,emotional expression,etc.The main structure of the dissertation is as follows:Chapter 1: Composition background.In this chapter,the author will introduce the composition background of the two masterpieces.The author will tease out Mr.Wu's lifetime compositions and his biography and then explain the effect of historical background on Pipa composition.Chapter 2: the connotation of the Pipa Solo and the poetry.The author will analyze the components of Pipa Solo enriched with musical implications with the help of music notation.Combined with the extracts from the poetry,this article will demonstrate a blending of connotation in music and poetry.Chapter 3: the musical information inherent in the poetry.The poetry gives the reader a glance at the forms,performance skills and technique back in Tang Dynasty,and the author will elaborate the musical information in this chapter.Chapter 4: the effect and influence of the Pipa Solo.The author will explain the significance and effect of the Pipa Solo from the point of contemporary artistic manifestation of traditional folktale and musical style.Chapter 5: the re-creation of the Pipa Solo.In this chapter the author will discuss the ingenious application of left-hand technique in the Pipa Solo and interpret the expression of musical atmosphere embedded in the beginning and ending part of the Pipa Solo.
