This paper mainly focused on a particular historical period called "Seventeen-Year"(1949-1966). Under the direction of Chairman Mao Zedong’s Speech at Yanan Forum onLiterature and Art and by focusing on the performance and classification of women’simages in painting, the essay has observed both gender imagination and social aestheticcharacteristics in this special historical period.Along with the booming development of women’s movement in the new era of China,the women’s images in painting greatly emerged, presenting a brand-new, revolutionarystyle as well as social images. This article intends to divide the image of women in paintinginto three categories:First, in early1950s, the theme of "women’s liberation" has showed women’s brandnew destiny and life in new China, meanwhile, revealing the subject "men and women areequal". Representative works could be found in Yang Zhiguang’s traditional Chinesepainting Life for the First Time, Jiang Yan’s traditional Chinese painting Test Mother, andTang Wenxuan’s traditional Chinese painting Mother and Daughter-in-law Go to WinterSchool, etc.Second, in late1950s, the revolutionary historical paintings could be seen as the recallof those heroines and their great deeds during the war time. The main representative worksare Feng Fasi’s oil painting Liu Hulan Die a Martyr and Wang Shenglie’s traditionalChinese painting Eight Women Cast River, etc.Last, praise of heroine and female role models occurred in the Production andConstruction time, has become one of the hot topics in the midst of "Seventeen-Year".Representative Works include Lin Gang’s New Year pictures Zhao Guilan in theGathering of Heroes, Wang Xia’s oil painting Island Girl, Wang Wenbin’s oil paintingRammers’ Work Chant and so on.In short, the dissertation has summarized the general features of women’s images inpainting in the "Seventeen-Year" and its internal connection with the fine arts during"Cultural Revolution" on the basis of the classification above.
