| “Bicultural self†is a self-composition, coexisted and compounded bysocial-orientation and individual-orientation. In the background of intense culturalchange for generations, people have no longer be able to maintain a relatively pureform of self, Instead, choose a bicultural self combined by ingredients of traditionalChinese culture and modern Western culture. Existing research overviewed thebicultural self model as basis of conceptual analysis and empirical research evidence, and examined today’s Chinese society bicultural self in a form and state as basis ofseries of mono-culture and cross-cultural research, thus confirmed the bicultural selfappearance and existence. But on the micro level of personal information processing, especially on the perceived level of face recognition, evidence of the psychology andbehavior of surface differences on different forms of individuals held by biculturalself has not yet appeared. Studies have shown that, Self-representation underdifferent culture, as well as attendant self-construal differences affect the coding ofbehavior information’ characterization by the hidden way, and then determine theeffect of face recognition as the perceived level of information processing, so, on themicro level of personal information processing, if we can confirm that individualwho have different group of bicultural self views will show a different appearance, and will further explain the characteristics of the bicultural self. In this study, basedon previous studies, try to explore the individual’ status of bicultural self-orientationin Xinjiang, which is located in the remote northwest of China inland border, andcombined with the cultural exchanges between East and West, and have feweropportunities for cooperation. As well as its development of demographiccharacteristics such as gender, economic level, urban or rural area and generation, inorder to enrich and develop research in the field of bicultural self. Then, try to furtherexamine the characteristics of cognitive processing demonstrated in the facerecognition task, the same to enrich and develop the field of bicultural self. This study consists of two parts. Firstly, randomly select1657subjects betweenthe age of12-41years old and living in Xinjiang province, then test for “individualorientation/social orientation self views scale ", and analysis the state of individualsheld of the bicultural self, as well as its Development Trend. Secondly, filter37subjects with typical bicultural self groups for face morph experiments, record andanalyze the response indicators (celebrity’ face pixels contained), summarizes the reaction rule of different cultural self groups in the cognitive dimension of facerecognition process. The conclusions of this study are as follows:1. Contemporary Xinjiang’ individuals encompassing2main components: thesocial-oriented self and individual-oriented self. Specific performance that, the scoreof social-oriented self is higher than individual-oriented self, and still be a dominant.2. There are significant differences in gender, economic level, urban or ruralarea and generation on Xinjiang’ individuals social-oriented self andindividual-oriented self. Men’s individual-oriented self views is higher than women, but the social-oriented self is less than woman; The individuals who lived in urbanhave higher social-oriented self and individual-oriented self than in rural;70’ havemore individual-oriented self than80’ and90’; High economic level’s people havehigher individual-oriented self than the other levels, which have no significantdifferences, and middle and high level’s people have more social-oriented self thanlow.3. There are significant differences in face cognitive processing of the self, acquaintances and strangers. Individual needs more celebrity’ face pixels inrecognition of self or acquaintance than strangers.4. Left hand advantage effect exist in individual recognition task in self andacquaintances’ face (Indicating that the advantages of the right hemisphere), but notin strangers’ face.5. There only three types of bicultural self in Xinjiang’s individual. That is,both the social-oriented self and individual-oriented self are high group (IHSH), lowindividual-oriented self and high social-oriented self group (ILSH), both thesocial-oriented self and individual-oriented self are low group (ILSL). In addition, thehigh social-oriented self groups need more acquaintances’ face pixels than the lowgroups, and shows more nearly in the response characteristics of the self-facerecognition, so acquaintances’ face are incorporated into a self-covered, and becomea part of the self. |
