Shyness is always described to a kind of personality characteristic, A kind of social intercourse attitude or a kind of repress appearance. Henderson defined shyness that is discomfort and/repression in the social intercourse situation, Is a kind of fear to negative evaluate and shyness will greatly influence participate behaviors to expectant activity or pursue behaviors to the individual and the occupation target company with upset or repression. The cross-cultural research proved the universality of shyness, most informants report they have experienced some degree shyness in various culture. In Beijing Normal University, Xiegang and Liuxiangpin′s studies show that the shy experience of Chinese undergraduates are more widespread and more serious compared to other nations'undergraduates, nowadays it has already seriously obstructed undergraduates′development of the social ability. So it is necessary to study the Chinese undergraduates′shyness deeply. This study is trying to know more about shyness by questionnaire research and ERP. After filter shy undergraduates and non-shy undergraduates by questionnaire, we study the nerve difference between shy undergraduates and non-shy undergraduates in the face recognition, facial expression recognition and familiar face recognition by ERP, which is trying to find some cognitive nerve basis about shyness. This study gets the following conclusions by the three experiments of the face recognition, facial expression recognition and familiar face recognition:(1) Shy undergraduates can distinguish face and object rapidly and truly in the face recognition task, the shy undergraduates'N170 amplitude elicited by face is greater than that elicited by object;(2) On the value effects of facial expression, the amplitude elicited by angry face is remarkably greater than that elicited by happy face in 400-1000ms;(3) On the waken effects, the amplitude elicited by the high waken stimulate is remarkably greater than that elicited by the low waken stimulate in 200-600ms; the amplitude elicited by the low waken stimulate is remarkably greater than that elicited by the high waken stimulate in 600-1000ms. Further more, the interaction between the value effects and the waken effects of facial expression is remarkable.(4) When recognise angry face, the shy undergraduates'amplitude in the right parietal and occipital lobe is remarkably greater than the non-shy undergraduates'amplitude in 400-600ms; the shy undergraduates'amplitude in the prefrontal lobe is remarkably smaller than the non-shy undergraduates'amplitude in 400-1000ms.(5) When recognise happy face, the amplitudes elicited by the low waken face and the high waken face have remarkable differences in non-shy undergraduates in 200-600ms, but it has no difference in shy undergraduates.(6) At the familiar face recognition task, the familiar effects are remarkable, amplitude elicited by the familiar face is greater than that elicited by the unknown face in 300-600ms.(7) When recognise unknown face, the shy undergraduates'amplitude is remarkably greater than the non-shy undergraduates'amplitude in 200-300ms;(8) When regnize the neutral face, the non-shy undergraduates'N170 amplitude is remarkably greater than that of the shy undergraduates', this difference don't accur when regnize the facial expression;(9) The amplitude and delitescence of N170 are influenced not by the facial familiar effects but by the value effects and the waken effects.
