Depression is a common negative emotional state, having a damagingeffect on the physical and mental health of individuals. Students witha certain degree of particularity as a social group (ie with high socialpursuit, in the face of the new educational system and subjected to greaterpressure on employment), which makes their depression with relativelyhigh level. How to reduce depression levels of university students, becometo be a subject which is concerned by college psychological counselingteachers generally. With the introduction of positive psychology, topromote positive emotions in counseling and psychotherapy is widelyaccepted, among these, which is mentioned in this article is‘the useof positive emotions, reduce depression levels’. Through interviews withmany college psychological counseling teachers, obtaining that they usethe above method to ease the students’ negative emotions in psychologicalcourses and individual psychological counseling (including depression,anxiety, irritability, etc.). But for producing the local applicabilityof Western psychological counseling, did not do in-depth study. Thisarticle is researching on students’ positive emotions and depressionlevel, combined with previous findings, inferencing the applicability ofthis method, which is‘the positive emotions reduce the level ofdepression’on Chinese college students.This study departs into two parts, literature review and statisticalanalysis. The literature review resolved some of the major positiveemotions, the concept of depression, and research results of therelationship between the two different cultures. In the statisticalanalysis part, subjects were 150 students in the university, test toolswere‘Positive and Negative Emotion Scale–Revised’Guo Mingzhuamended and‘Stream call the Self-Rating Depression Scale’Zhang Mingyuan amended. Use the SPSS19.0 statistical software entry andprocessing of data. using the relevant sub-Xu and regression analysis,the conclusions are as follows:(1) At present, the depression level of the student is at a high level.This result is similar to the findings of the recent scholars. The reasonwhy a higher level of depression, through the interviews, because thestudy pressure, human relations, employment pressure (senior students)leading to a high level of depression in college students.(2) Students’ positive emotions and depression levels were notsignificantly negatively correlated. This result is the same as thefindings of other scholars. The innovation of this paper is: on the basicof foreign scholars’study, and Chinese college students as subjects.in order to carry out the localization of the relationship betweenpositive emotions and the level of depression Research. Before scholarsuse European and American students as subjects and obtained: Europe andAmerican college students showed a significant negative correlationbetween positive emotions and depression levels, while positive emotionsand depression levels among Asian immigrant students was not a significantnegative correlation . The results of this study validate previous studies,that there was not a significant negative correlation between positiveemotions and depression levels of the Chinese student population. Theabove results is mainly caused by cultural factors. Therefore, thecorollary of this study and previous scholars is that: Cultural factorsmay affect the role of positive emotions in counseling and psychotherapy.(3) College psychological counseling teachers should re-consider theapplicability of the counseling method of‘the positive emotions reducethe level of depression’in the Chinese student population.
