Abstract:Malaysia is a multiethnic and multicultural country. Malaysia’s second largest ethnic is Chinese. Chinese language is the common language for Malaysian Chinese, but Malaysian Chinese language is not equivalent to Chinese language in China. In multilingual communication, Malaysian Chinese language forms one unique language. During the communication, the modal words of Malaysian Chinese spoken language is the most prominent.Large-scale use of the modal words in daily life is a major feature of the Malaysian Chinese. There are some understanding from experiences and explain based on examples about this long time ago, however the research on the variation of modal words is few. On the basis of former literature research, this paper selects three Malaysian local films which can reflect the situation of Malaysian Chinese language as the corpus source. This paper works on collecting commonly used modal words in Malaysian Chinese, and analyzing the phenomenon of variation of modal words that caused by integration of Chinese, Chinese dialect and foreign language, as well as the causes. Besides, this paper tries to summarize this linguistic phenomenon and detect the causes of nonstandard use of modal words aimed at providing a reference for the Chinese teaching.
