In the middle of the 1980s, the introspection literature and the root-seeking literature taketurns on the stage of mainstream literary circles. However, in the southeast coast of China, thePearl River Delta, the labor literature was born quietly as a new literature style in the rising tideof reform and opening up. The labor literature has been mature increasingly in the aspects ofdepth, style, and art skills since the new century.Looking at the history of the labor literature in the new century, it is always with hardship asthe living characteristic of labors, with survival as key point of this kind of literature. Moreover,surviving in the hardship has become to be the indispensable main subject of the literature.On the service of showing the real life of labors, the labor literature almost tells us thehardship labors encountered materially, physically and mentally. Materially, so many laborssuffer from embarrassment of financial problems. Physically, they are subject to torture of sexualrepression of limit or indulgence. Mentally, they know enough of the pain of wandering life andvain mental world.The labor literature in the new century has revealed fully of the states of mind and situation oflabors when they recognize sufferings in life. They choose different ways to answer it. Some cantolerate it silently in the spirit of horse. Some confront it in the ways of violence or stealing. Andsome choose to find short cuts of gaining wealth through being forced in sex. Among them, theliterature describe various miserable living situations and fates of labors through describing theirdifferent choices, indicating struggling and change of humanity.It is extraordinarily useful to show the hardship labors suffered. The literature is a kind ofrealistic creation, focusing on the description of the labors in the gap between urban and ruralareas and corners of the society. It shows thoroughly of the hidden survival condition, revealingstrong humanistic concern for them. However, there seems to be limits in the description, such asexaggeration of hardship they confronted and shortage of description, thinking of suffering.In the aspect of subject researching, this thesis tries to grasp the subjects of the new century labor literature. It researches deeply on the description of the hardship in the literature and thedifference between them and the former literature. At the beginning, the literature takes the vividsocial meaning as its characteristic, calling the attention of society to offer help throughdescribing the hardship of the labors. Among the description of the hardship, the literature isquite meaningful by revealing their poor condition and destination. Although there are limits, theliterature has successfully made records and description of the process of the modernization andhard works of the labors.
