Personal spirit is the concentrated expression of the most important ideas that reflect to the behavior, and is one of the most important research topics of ethics. Chinese traditional culture pays more attention to transcendence of the inner heart, and promote individual to pursuit and interpret the real life constantly in order to contribute to developing the society, especially more strict to the personal spirit of intellectuals. Hu Shi is such a complex intellectual with high degree of social responsibility. He is so studious、self-reliance、independent and patriotic that he provides an important model, whether in thought and action, to the intellectuals, and motivates countless intellectuals to develop positive values, thus speed up the progress of contribution of material civilization and achieve a harmonious society by promoting the construction of spiritual civilization of the country and society.The study consists of six parts:Part1:describe the current research on personal spirit of Hu Shi.Part2:show the purpose、significance of the paper, then express the thinking of research and possibility of innovation.Part3:expound the concept content of personal spirit, highlight the content、 characteristics of personal spirit of Hu Shi, and show the limitation of his thinking and behavior.Part4:explore the generation sources of Hu’s personal spirit and clarify the affection of personal experiences、family background、social environment on the Hu’s personal spirit.Part5:demonstrate the revelation of Hu’s personal spirit to the construction of the contemporary intellectuals’personal spirit.Part6:summary the previous5parts and conclude that unique and good-trend of Hu’s personal spirit is very significant for contemporary intellectuals to construct their personal sprit.
