In recent years, English writing researches in China primarily keepfocusing on writing processes, writing results, writing environment andwriting instruction procedures, among which, writing process is under theinfluence of learning process theory. Promoted by the currentstudent-centered teaching approaches, and concerning English writingteaching researches, more and more Chinese researchers have turned tofocused on student-subject studies. However, as for domain of empiricalstudy, there still exists great deficiency on inner cognitive process of writingsubjects. Reflecting the reason of such phenomenon, we might conclude thatone of significant reason is due to the lack of valid demonstration datawhich can be used to support the construction of relevant theories. Theconsequence can also be attributed to the lack of highly reliable and validmeasurement tools that can be used to support empirical investigation.Therefore, based on the theories on learning processes, writing processesand cognitive psychology, the research developed an investigating tool withhigh reliability and validity, which would be used to measure learners’English writing characteristics, and English writing thinking factors. Thedatum results are to be required to describe the characteristics of writingthought and to analyze the factors and frameworks of English writingthinking. With this tool, we can help teachers have a better understanding oflearner’s characteristics of own, and then teachers could take better effectiveteaching.The method of this research is a quantitative one. The datum iscollected mainly by the way of paper closed-questionnaire, while web datacollection is also taken as an assistant method. On basis of various characteristics of learning process( such as perception,, cognition, andcharacter), the writer strives to design a quantitative survey tool with theconstitution of English writing process which concludes steps of topicexamination, content conception, composition conception, text output, andprocess management. Extracting subjects from several colleges anduniversities all over the country, the writer makes surveys of the factors andframework of English writing thinking with the designed survey tool, andconducts the data processing by using descriptive statistical analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and Standardized regression analysis inSPSS18.0, so as to find the inner relations among English writing thinkingfactors, then do further analyses of the results of the data processing fromthe aspects of relative subjects, such as psychology.Research results indicate that English writing thinking structure areconstituted by four factors, which are“Management of knowledgereproduction and logical thinking”,“Domination of writing progress anddetails”,“Definition of composition and organization”, and“Emphasis ofthe main idea”. There exists compact relevance among the four kinds offactors and their sub factors. Based on the findings given by the statisticalanalyzing results, a framework is designed to reflect the connotation andconstruction of English writing thinking, and some ideas suggestions are putforwards for English writing teaching in this study at last.
