Usually, the sticking points in translation are related with the handle of discrepancies between Chinese and English. To achieve new translation strategies, the first priority is to know the discrepancies and their source.According to the new trends and recent directions of CM Theory, this paper will analyze the translation of physical quality adjectives from four aspects-prototypical experiences and image schemas, cultural scripts, predicative constructions and adjective word formations. There are totally five chapters in this paper. Chapter One elucidates three basic questions, the research background, the object of study, and the significance and objectives. In Chapter Two, the theory supporting the whole study is introduced—Conceptual Metaphor Theory. In Chapter Three, by analyzing source texts and target texts quoted from a corpus online Chinese-English online (CEO), the effects and problems in translation are expounded from four aspects respectively-prototypical experiences and image schemas, cultural scripts, predicative constructions and adjective word formations. Chapter Four proposes translation strategies on the basis of the analysis in Chapter Three. This section argues that translation strategies should be selected according to the type of the source texts. For news and official documents, etc. which are issued for the transmission of objective information, implicitation of the conceptual mapping paths is suggested. By contrast, explicitation of the conceptual mapping paths is applicable to the translation of works of literature which need to convey the culture background and the distinct ideology to others. The final part is conclusion, including major findings and limitations.
