The Tragical Struggle——the Exploring Of Female Problems In The Tang Legend

The women image research of the Tang Legend is a hotspot in the literary world. By researching all classes of women’s social status, living conditions in the Tang Legend works and their tragic, hopeless struggle, this paper attempts to explore the women’s struggle track of seeking liberation and refute an argument of "feminism stretching".The paper is divided into five parts to discuss:The first chapter analyzes the women’s marriage tragedies in the Tang Legend. The important discussions are the view of feudal family status which was difficult for men and women to go beyond and the view of marriage based on the feudal system. This chapter also discusses various tragedies caused by feudalism. The victims were not only the abandoned lovers, but also the legal wives.The second chapter analyzes the women’s struggle in the Tang Legend (I). This struggle was just under the feudal system rather than violate men’s dominion, such as the struggle for the power of free love and extramarital affairs aroused by this struggle. So this struggle leaded to the tragic end.The third chapter continues to analyzes the women’s struggle in the Tang Legend (Ⅱ).After not gaining the power of free love and the strangle of extramarital affairs, the women took other measures to struggle. They became shrews or chivalrous experts, even became nuns. Although this end seemed to be comedic, it was also hard to hide the essence of the tragedy.The fourth chapter analyzes the internal struggle among the women group. This struggle contained the conflict between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law which was difficult to solve in one thousand years and the struggle between the wives faction. It is a chapter of the most practical significance.Chapter five makes a summary of this paper. Besides the practical significance, this paper refutes many people’s view on awakening awareness of Tang Dynasty women and the stretching of feminist. The researchers didn’t give careful consideration to the whole Tang Dynasty women, but only analyzed them individually. They just saw they want to see, and the overall tragic color was mentioned casually.Therefore, from the overall perspective, this is a way of the resistance doomed to fail. According to a case analysis, the Tang Dynasty women are not lack of awakening awareness, but there is a long way to stretch the feminism. We can only say that times has created a group of so beautiful, bold and brave women. They know to struggle and how to seek their happiness. However, in the final analysis, this struggle builds on the basis of patriarchal society. The authors of Tang Dynasty are filled with grief of women’fate and resentment of feudal system to write The Legends. The researchers can neither blindly overstate the historical role at the women’s liberation, nor use pessimistic view to emphasize that Tang Dynasty women are victims who cannot see a bit of hope. Proper measuring women’s historical status has great positive significance for the study of women’s literature and exploring the way of women’s libration.
