Ghunghajalsan was the first Lama Gharao Living Buddha of Labrang monastery, he had very high position and with significant meaning in Xinjiang modern history and Xinjiang Tibetan Buddhism history. In the Qing dynasty, he devoted his entire lifetime to promoting Buddhism and build two ChengHua temples in northern Xinjiang. He has made huge contribution for the development of Xinjiang Tibetan Buddhism. And also he made a significant contribution to the history of ethnic relations in the Mongolian and Tibetan. When Xinjiang was in turmoil, he broke the precept and organized armed forces to protect refugees. Facing the Tsarist Russia’s armed intrusion, he defied the brute force, organized both the army and people to resist Tsarist Russia’s aggression, he has played an important role in maintaining social stability and the national unity of Xinjiang. Based on researching the recorded literature and the author’extensive field work, this paper mainly elaborates his prominent contribution and historic significance, to make more people know about his brave deeds and Carry forward his patriotic spirit.
