With the prosperity and the development of the market economy, various Chinese versions of Jane Austen’s works have emerged, which provide the readers with a wider room of selection. In order to get a whole view of a foreign writer and her works, understanding the translation history of her works is a necessary premise to interpret her works. Therefore, the management and the study of the translation of Jane Austen’s novels show its importance as time passes by. It is an essential work to clear the translation history of literary translation, to conclude the past, to make introspection and scan the past things again. That is, it helps to summarize the gains and losses of the past works. It also makes the translation world, the publishing world and the literary world understand the working experiences and lessons learned from past. Through the review of the history, we are able to use an objective and historical perspective to view the influences of various factors on the translation of Jane Austen’s novels in China.The translation of Jane Austen’s novels is always a hot issue in the filed of translation. This thesis firstly introduces the background and the significance of the research of Jane Austen’s novels’translation in China, the basic structure of the paper. The author has combed the research outcomes of the translation of Jane Austen’s works in China and points out the research significance of the study of translation history of Jane Austen’s novels and their influences in China so as to prove the value and significance of writing this essay. Subsequently, the translation history of Jane Austen’s novels in China is reviewed from four stages to introduce. The author finds that the translation process of Jane Austen’s works in China is not going smoothly, due to the influences of different social and historical backgrounds in different periods. In different periods, the number of the translation of Jane Austen’s works has a lot of differences. With the development of the society, the translation of Jane Austen’s works gradually shows flourishing situation.Then it studies the overall features of the translation of Jane Austen’s works, including the translators’motivation and selection of translations, the coexistence of spontaneous selection and systematic organization, the selection of translation strategies, the win-win relationship between translation and research. The author thinks that many factors restrict the translation of Jane Austen’s works in China. In numerous factors, ideology and culture are two of the most important factors, which have an impact on the translators’motivation and selection of translations, the translators’ selection of translation strategies. Then, the thesis explores the influences of the translation of Jane Austen’s works on Chinese translators and Chinese writers after a general introduction to Jane Austen and her novels. The thesis points out that the translation of Jane Austen’s works has certain influences on Chinese translators and Chinese writers. The novels of Jane Austen lead Chinese translators to pay close attention to the feminist literature. It makes them reconsider the values of feminist works and it also arouses their reflections on life. In addition, the author takes Zhang Ailing as an example to analyze the influences of Jane Austen’s works on Chinese writers. After a comparison, it can be found that Zhang Ailing’s works and Jane Austen’s works have too many similarities. Therefore, the author thinks that Jane Austen has deeply influenced Zhang Ailing from content to writing methods. However, due to the influences of different cultures, she formed her own style on the basis of inheriting Jane Austen. Finally, the author will give a summary and some reflections on the paper.Through the sorting of Jane Austen’s personal cases, the author hopes that it contributes to the research of the foreign literary translation, further promoting its research and development. In the meantime, the author hopes that the classical status of Jane Austen can be kept for ever.
