Academic procrastination is the behavior which produced in the process of learning,it has an badeffect on not only students’ learning but also the physical and mental health.In this study,interwiewingmethod and questionnaries were adapted to investigate the reasons of academic procrastination of ruralmiddle school students.In addition, we distinguish academic procrastination from self-esteem andSelf-efficacy,in order to help rural middle school students form a good habit of learning and provideEducators with a new view which intervenes academic procrastination.In the first study,we selected400rural middle school students as objects,the two questionnairesabout the degree and reason of academic procrastination were drawn up, hereafter,we choosed1000students that from four rural middle school in Henan Province. Degree of Academic ProcrastinationQuestionnaire,Reason of Academic Procrastination Questionnaire,General Self-Efficacy Scale andSelf-Esteem Scale, which were used as instruments investigated those students.we obtained the statisticalanalysis of data by SPSS17.0and AMOS16.0,this study makes the following conclusions:(1)The questionnaire about the degree of academic procrastination works well, it’s reliability andvalidity are in line with the requirements of psychometrics.(2) The questionnaire about the reason of academic procrastination is consist of three dimensions:personal characteristics, personal attitudes and campus surrounding. it’s reliability and validity are also inline with the requirements of psychometrics.(3)The degree of rural middle school students is higher than urban,the degree of academicprocrastination has significant differences in different gender,grade and academic achievement.The degreeof academic procrastination in women is higher than in men,and it displays a trend of going up from juniorto senior students;Poor students is higher than excellent students; separated children are similar withthem.English is a most serious subject for academic procrastination. (4) There are some main reasons for academic procrastination of rural middle school students,forexample, their learning objectives are not clear; they arrange time unreasonably;they are lack of ability tolearn;they are tired of school assignment;they don’t form a good habit of learning, and so on.(5)there is significant positive correlation between academic procrastination and self-esteem,Self-efficacy; moreover, academic procrastination and self-esteem are related more closely; bothself-esteem and self-efficacy can affect academic procrastination significantly.(6) self-esteem plays a partial mediation effects role in the relationship between Self-efficacyand academic procrastination,it indicates that Self-efficacy not only affect academic procrastinationdirectly,but also affect academic procrastination indirectly through self-esteem.
