Britain rises in nineteenth Century.British outshines the rest in the worldwide regardless what sphere---political, economy or culture,.The establishment of United Empire allowed the British to draw nutrients from the world.Under such a vast background, this paper is focused on British farms’development in nineteenth Century and the relationship among the British farm scale and efficiency. In late eighteenth Century, the British farms’development has changed from the previous family farm which mainly consists of small farms to big agriculture which mainly consists of large tenant farm. The so-called big farms generally refers to those farm lands more than100acres.These large farms rise accompanied with the agricultural revolution and the two factors complemented with each other. In the agricultural revolution, new farming techniques, new drainage technique, new breed and new cropping systems are widely implemented on farms or experimental farms, with the agricultural revolution and big farm’s development, followed by high farming era in1940s.lt was an high yield and high gains era. In this era big farm has incomparable advantages, it highly shows prosperity of the agricultural. The ranch in England have a dominant status in all kinds of farms, the dominant position is mainly reflected in the area and volume changes. The large-scale operation of the ranch can obtain a better income by making full use of the resources and reducing the unit cost. The size of the farm and the benefit it generates has a certain relation. When it comes to the unit profit, some small farms even generate more than the large farms, but when the input and output ratio is considered, large farms still have their advantages. In market economy, ranches can do diversified large-scale businesses, and make agricultural income from different shops, which is the advantage that most of the small farms lack. What’s more, when confronting a crisis, ranches’resistance to pressure is stronger than that of the small farms. From a comprehensive perspective, ranches have already been adapt to the prevailing commodity-socialization mode of production and is also a production mode able to generate economies of scale.
