The Black Prince is a novel created by Iris Murdoch in the1970s,and win the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. In the novel, she shapes an mysterious and Multiple image the Black Prince---Bradley. In this dissertation, based on close reading, combined with the point of Iris Murdoch’s own philosophical views, and suffered the ideological influence of existential philosophy, it will try to explore the problem of existence of love, death, art, ethics and responsibility of the self-multiplicity and complexity of Bradley. This article is divided into three chapters,The first chapter, it will use the perspective of multiple narrative to analyze the lack of self in Bradley’s characters, and try to interpret self-multiplicity and complexity of Bradley on the life, art, and Eros. The second chapter is mainly explaining the road from solipsism to unself of Bradley, through self-concern to concerned about the otherness, self-doubt to self-affirmation and ignoring the even to recognize the reality. The third chapter is mainly the pursuit of good, combined with Murdoch’s own philosophical views from the morality of freedom, unself and ethical responsibilities. Through the analysis of the self road of Bradley, I think that his self road has two aspects. On the one hand, the self road of Bradley has a profound existential philosophy meanings, reflecting the existence of human’s self value;on the other hand, the self road reflects Murdoch’s own philosophy, which is Murdoch’s art, love, the moral issue of profound thinking, and his good philosophy。Good is not just the core of Murdoch’s philosophy, it is profoundly confirmed with the ultimate destination of the life trajectory of his pen figure. By the character of Bradley,Murdoch shows variety self of post-modern areas, and deeply investigates how to deal with the complexity of the human predicament. Although, Murdoch think the evil of human nature, but we can not deny her profound anxiety of the human condition and the infinite care. Her philosophy aims to guide people fully understanding, recognizing, respecting the contingency of the world, and to tell us that we must learn to face life, having courage to take those responsibilities in the life and improving ourselves in the pursuit of truth, morality and accountability. This is a place of resort experience in human existence, but, it is also the most valuable thing.
