Ever since the Tang Dynasty’s Legends, images of maidservants have been extensivelyportrayed in all kinds of literature works, laying a solid foundation for maidservants’ imagebuilding in later ages. In the age of Qing Dynasty, classical novels creation came insplendidly, bringing about a large number of classical novel collections of great literary andsocial value. And the maidservants’ images portrayed in those works turned more matureand fully-developed. The Qing Dynasty was set in the later period of the feudal society,inwhich totalitarian ruling went downhill to decline after reaching the peak, and the slaveregime intensified to an unprecedented level along the rises and falls. The maidservants, inthe very kind of social context, being nobodies at the bottom of the society, wouldundoubted presents a series of tributes with characteristics of the time. Compared with thatof the Dynasties before, maidservants of the Qing Dynasty not only overwhelmed innumber, but also broke with traditional modes of promoting plot development and acting asthe thread through the work, and some of the maidservants even presents as protagonists inthe classical works.The maidservants is a special and indispensable group in Classical novels of the QingDynasty, observing and trimming of images of maidservants in Qing Classical novelswould make up for the deficiency in study on Qing’s maidservants in ancient Chineseliterature istory. In the sense of sociology, it will also make great sense to deepen ourunderstanding on living conditions of the "the poor" in Qing Dynasty. This very articletakes study on Qing maidservants related classic novels as subjects, and is dedicated tosearching for related works among the colossal classical novels, working out a concisesummary of study on images of maidservants in Qing Dynasty, and making someachievements under a relatively microscopic angle and on the basis of learning fromexisting study results.
