Anhui, as a province with large collection of pedigrees, saved a lot of the pedigrees of the Ming and Qing dynasties. According to General Catalogue of Chinese Pedigrees, only the Huizhou region, which contained one prefecture and six counties, were nearly1,000of the Ming and Qing pedigrees. Therefore, the actual number of retained pedigrees must beyond this figure. Anhui region holds such a wealth of pedigrees resources, but there were rare study took the pedigrees of the Anhui region as a topic to conduct a comprehensive, in-depth, systematic study of academic research. Therefore, it has a certain innovation and academic value to choose the pedigrees of Anhui region in the Ming and Qing dynasties as the topic. This thesis mainly takes the General Catalogue of Chinese Pedigrees as the research center, combined with official histories, chronicles, proceedings, instruments and other relevant literature, to study the pedigrees of Anhui Province in Ming and Qing Dynasties, which was included in the General Catalogue of Chinese Pedigrees, so as to reveals the characteristics of these type of pedigrees and their geographical distribution characteristics. Through the topic, it can not only help to deepen the learning of Hui Study, Tongcheng, Anhui regional socio-economic history, and can also help to deepen the study of pedigree and history of philology. What’s more, it helps to meet the Chinese at home and abroad the cultural needs of roots ancestral.This article is mainly divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction, which introduces the origin of the topic, the status of academic research, objects of study, study area defined, research methods and ideas.The second part is the main thesis, consists of the first, second and third chapters. This part mainly using historical philology, comparative history, measurement of historiography, sociology and communication science theories and methods and General Catalogue of Chinese Pedigrees to count and study the pedigrees of the Anhui region in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Besides, it also wants to conduct regional comparative studies, analysis the geographical distribution and compilation characteristics of the pedigrees of Anhui region in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The third part is conclusion. It generalizes from the overall statistics and analysis on the pedigrees of Anhui region in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Anhui region stored pedigrees in larger quantities in Ming and Qing Dynasties, but the pedigrees were unevenly distributed. The distribution of the pedigrees in Anhui region of the Ming and Qing Dynasties was more concentrated, but the difference was greater. Pedigrees’ stock distribution showed a great difference on time and space. Obviously, pedigrees kept in Southern Anhui were much more than Northern Anhui.A number of important factors were hidden behind this difference, such as economic factor, geographic factor, political factor, cultural factor, humanities and social factor. And the economic factor is the main reason of this difference. At the same time, the clan’s conscious of editing pedigree was strength or not, the mechanism of pedigree compiling was perfect or not, cultural and educational developing or not, the social environment was stable or not, as well as pedigree’s collection and protection measures was complete or, all of these affect the pedigrees’ stock. These various factors combined together caused the overall trend that the pedigrees stocked in South were much more than the north in Anhui during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
