His novels, either the polar novels with the nature ofproletariat or the neo-sentient novels with writing urban life, always deviate from theleft-wing tendency in modern political context, showing the modern’s survival dilemmaand spiritual anxiety through his own aesthetics and conveying human the survival courageand the survival will by his own life experience. The existentialism in his novels shows usthe positive significance to living of the contemporary city life.This article will discuss the existential idea of Mu Shiying’s novels from three aspects.The first chapter will express the existential idea in Mu Shiying’s novels. In thischapter, I will mainly analyze the existential idea which is contained in Mu Shiying’s novels.Either the polar novels or the neo-sentient novels, even the later novels describing the wars,it deviates from political context, exceeds the boundary of class struggle, shows the humanbelief crisis under the modern mode of production, the loss of life courage in the beliefcrisis, the various choices for their lives, and the survival will beyond the expression in MuShiying’s novels.The second chapter will compare the existential idea of Mu Shiying’s novels with LuXun’s. Lu Xun and Mu Shiying were paying attention to human lonely mentality andhuman anxiety experience, and made their own thinking to the individual life. Comparedto Lu Xun’s novels, it lacks the explicit expression of hope to resist in the despair in MuShiying’s novels, but his description of the city ordinary people’s living conditions andhopeless mental embodies the modern city life’s absurdity, inner upset and anxiety ofurbanite who realizing himself/herself was materialized and alienated. He revealedhumanistic scar by faithful picture but not pointed out the way specifically, so the readerswill has their freedom to feel the lives from his novels.The third chapter will discuss the causes of the existential idea in Mu Shiying’s novels.The emergency of the existential idea in Mu Shiying’s novels is related to his own lifeexperiences and spiritual experiences, which is the main cause for him to form his own characters. It makes Mu Shiying’s works and existentialism fit in the idea, because theinfluence from the writers who have the same interests with Mu Shiying in the same periodand existential pioneer, and the global human crisis under the historical background.Through the analysis of the three aspects, we can see that Mu Shiying’s novels not onlyhave a special historical significance in literature history, but also provide a rare positivemeaning for thinking the value of people’s life in the course of urbanization.
