Yigui Hu, is a famous philosopher, specialist of the theory of Change. Based on the essentials of Zhuzi’s study of Changes heritage, he critically incorporates the thoughts of many other scholars of Changes into forming his own system of theory of Changes, which made his thought of Changes a very important role in the field of Changes in Yuan Dynasty. This article is dedicated to exhibiting a general picture of Yigui Hu’s thoughts of Changes. To do this I referred to his books Zhou yi Qi meng Yi zhuan,Elementary Introduction to I Ching, Book Of Changes and The Anthology of Mr. Shuanghu, history documents and literature about him included in the books of History of Yuan Dynasty and Xin’an Xue xi lu, and also research done by other scholars. The entire economic, political and cultural environment at that time of Yuan dynasty combined together has hugely influenced Hu’s thoughts of the theory of Changes. Besides, that he was born in the hometown of Zhuzi, Wu Yuan and his father’s huge interest and deep exploration in Zhuzi’s study of Changes also inspired his interest in the theory of Changes.. His.-thoughts on Changes are. hugely influenced by Zhuxi. Hu collected and systematically analyzed and summarized the development state of I Ching and related literature and believed that Zhuxi’s study of Changes was a big success. Hu believed that the theory of Changes was the combination of image-nunber Yi and meaning-pattern YI with the two being equally weighted in importance. Hu’s thoughts of changes are therefore basically development of and some correction of Zhuzi’s theory of Changes.Hu’s research played a very important historical role in the development of the theory of Changes. Based his research on Zhuixi’s theory, he illustrated Zhou yi Ben yi with profound Confucianism knowledge background such as the Four Books and the Five Classics, which was very meaningful at that time. Moreover, Hu’s thoughts also have great importance contemporarily. His influence in Changes not only realized his aim of disseminating Zhuzi’s thoughts but also helped the formation of official theory of Changes in Qing dynasty. Further, his literature collection and organizing in this area as well as the study of books and thoughts on imagery had also influenced the development of Changes in Qing dynasty.Hu was committed to inheriting and disseminating Zhuzi’s thoughts by completely and systematically organizing Zhuzi’s theory and trying his best to reveal and maintain the original meaning and essence all his life. His macro mastery and micro exploration of I-Ching gave rise to his own system of theory of Changes with equal emphasis on both Xiang and Li. However, his contribution was not confined in illustrating Zhuzi’s theory. His collecting and organizing of literature on Changes and investigation of different versions of I-Ching and historical inheriting of the theory was also worth mentioning. Furthermore, he also influenced the development of Changes in Ming and Qing dynasty deeply.
