Comments on the Record of History, edited and proofread by Lin Zhilong, a Wucheng native during the Wanli reign of Ming Dynasty, is a canon crystallized with different schools of historic thoughts before the fourth year of Wanli’s reign and highlighted by the author’s own opinions, which justifies its epithet“the encyclo-paedical research work on the Record of History”.However, there is hardly anyone in modern times who has never made systematic research into the literary values of the 130 pieces of brilliant writings in Comments on the Record of History, thus the glory of this masterpiece is eclipsed to some extent.This thesis focuses on the summary of literary comments concerning The Record of History, starting from the assessments of diction and layout in comments on the Record of History, and making a systematic study of its literary values. Meanwhile, it’s supposed to be pointed out that this very book contains different comments of different critics on the same version as well as similar comments of different critics on the different versions. All these comments enable us to obtain a thorough understanding of Sima Qian’s writing purpose and a complete analysis of the commentary work.This paper focuses on the Western narrative reference theory, "Historical Records" text, discusses comments on the Record of History on the "Historical Records" narrative perspective, and narrative non-narrative discourse of the time, trying to prove that Chinese Narrative Studies in Ming and Qing Dynasties already mature, and the formate of a certain local characteristics and it is not lagging behind Western research.
