The May Fourth period is a glamorous brilliant culture period and also adevelopment period of prose which is the ancient stylistic. In the face of libraryearthquake and mind vibration, the two people in the same age interpreted it indifferent life understanding and formed various and correlative prose style. Theyalso common witnessed and created a flourishing Golden Age.This paper startsfrom the prose comparison between Qian and Liang. Firstly it elucidates the richconnotation contained in their prose with the combination of multi-anglecomparison of their studies on the basis of close reading. Secondly it discussestheir different life attitudes demonstrated by the prose. Finally it highlights theirunique achievement and internal correlation of their prose. It determines the valueand significance of characterized youth essays in literary history through acomparative study.As a modern well-known essayist, Liang Yuchun named "China’s Eleatic"has a lot of classical translations mainly included in the "spring mash set" and the"tears and laughs"during his short life of 27 years. His prose deeply got theessence of English essay and he particularly liked Charles Lamb. Although hedidn’t write much, his strokes, speculation and attitude toward the word interwovenbeauty and ugliness has made his works more and more mellow and the richconnotation in his works has received researchers’ attention more and more as timewent on.Qian Zhongshu known as "tsinghua’s first wit" was a young writer eponymous with Liang Yuchun at that time. He also received the influence ofEnglish essays and Chinese classical culture. Compared with Liang’s prose thatcold inside and hot outside, his works presented one kind of indifferent scholarstyle, but its internal humorous, contradiction and so on had some kind ofcorrelation with Liang. His essay collections "writing on the edge of life" almostperfectly interpreted life. His quips and profound philosophy have been talkedabout by researchers.The thesis is mainly divided into five chapters. ChapterⅠaims to analyze thetwo people who writes life standing on the edge of life and their potentialdifferences in inner sidelines and scrutiny. ChapterⅡis divided into two parts. Thefirst section focuses on analyzing different textures of the two people on their hardand soft humor. The second section reveals the complexity and richness of theunique style from two different naysayers. ChapterⅢfocuses on analysis ofdifferent ways of feelings and experience to contradictory and provides lingeringdepression and anxiety in the same cultural context. Chapter IV focuses on twodifferent artistic technique. The last chapter combines the comparative researchresults to determine youth prose represented by Liang Yuchun and Qian Zhongshuexist the unique aspects in the feeling experience and overall assurance andunderstands the unique existence of youth prose in this period on the basis of abetter grasp of their own prose intrinsic.In fact, this paper comparatively mines the prose of Liang Yuchun and QianZhongshu from the perspective of life spectator, humor, contradiction andopposition and better grasps their own prose connotation which is meaningful for the understanding of argumentative prose.
