Tianjin had the most abundant cultures and was the most complex society during the period from late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. In the 1930s-1940s, there were some journalists in Tianjin started to describe the social morphology of Old Tianjin, but their literature haven’t been classified by the history of literature as their vulgar style. In the 1980s, with the change of contemporary literary creative view in China, many writers made regional customs, daily life and emotion as their object creation. They wanted to make the thinking with national history into the representation of individual destiny. Under the background above, a Root-searching Literature was set off in contemporary literature, Feng Jicai’s Jin-novels was one of them. In 1984, after Shen Bian by Feng jicai published, more and more writers in Tianjin started to describe Old Tianjin, and made the their own values and pursuit into this description.The city culture of modern Tianjin can be divided into three parts:wharf culture, family culture with characteristics of Tianjin and modern western civilization. The civic society, the family in urban and the concession in Old Tianjin respectively corresponded the above cultures.This article would integrate the writing of Old Tianjin into the culture system above, wishing to comprehend the text more easily with the help of cultural analysis. Furthermore, the article would pay attention to the contemporary meaning in the description and imagination of this social form. Besides the introduction and conclusion, the article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter elaborates wharf culture in Old Tianjin and Jin-novels about the citizens Life. The former analyses the causes of wharf culture in Old Tianjin and the legend and secular mentality which derived from wharf culture. The latter explains Linxi’s Jin-novels about the citizens’ life. Many unique characters and well-organized social operation made the social ecological in Linxi’s Jin-novels. Narrative features in Linxi’s the citizens writing affected by the classical literature which always like to show some different stories from the same plot model and traditional way of thinking which was full of binary opposition. The omniscient perspective transformed neatly by the author expressed theme text in better way.The second chapter explains family culture with characteristics of Tianjin and Literature presents of the family in Tianjin. The establishment of the concession made the upper society in Old Tianjin experience the modern western civilization, but they just only accepted this civilization on the implements level and still sticked to Confucian culture on nature level of Family ethics. The family in Old Tianjin by Linxi had very deep private memory. Linxi writing about the families’ emotion shows the missing to the lost Confucian ethics, and the fate of comprador’s family described by him reflected the revolution of Old Tianjin and the transform of mainstream social values.The third chapter discussed about the concession culture and the imagination of concession in old Tianjin. The concession culture was the representative of western modern civilization and western values. When the concession culture was implanted into old Tianjin, on one hand, it caused conflicts between Chinese and western culture. On the other hand, it showed the cultural exchange between them. The writing about the concession in Old Tianjin was not too much during the new period. In Si Feng Lou, the myth in the concession was deconstructed by sexual desire, money, conspiracy and shame. The distorted imagination of concession had highlighted the author’s homesickness. The Life in the Concession and The Small Foreign Devil have recalled the authors’ immigrant living, revealing the sense of crisis and displacement between the lines. Sacred Ferry, a documentary literature work, intentionally confused the boundary between the concession and urban area in Old Tianjin. It made the warm memories of Jewish immigrant transform into the prosperity of the whole Tianjin.
