Chinese film box office in2011continued the blowout growing momentum in2010. According to data of SARFT (The State Administration of Radio Film and Television), the box office of2011was13.115billion RMB (including the city cinema market, secondary market and rural market), an increase of28.93%over last year. The number of people seeing films in city cinemas was370million, the increasing number is80million, more than27%. Over800new cinemas started business, and over3,000screens were newly added, the daily average is8.3. The rapid growth of Chinese film market in recent years is rather comforting, people have stronger consumer demand for culture and entertainment, both the supply and demand are explosively growing, Chinese film box office steps into era of10billion. The same developing trend happens in Hohhot, as the capital of Inner Mongolia, Hohhot is the second largest industrial city and one of the most developed cities in Inner Mongolia. This paper is an investigation and research of the survival situation of cinemas in Hohhot. By identifying problems, the author hopes to find some useful suggestions.In general reports, theater chain is usually defined as a main issue (such as film company or production company) and a number of cinemas operate under centralized management and same brand, its business model is similar to the "chain store". Theater chain can be a union of cinemas and filmmakers or distributors, be linked up tightly by assets or loosely by the films supply. From2003to2011, Chinese film box office witnessed a rise of over14times,It is universally acknowledged that Chinese film contains a huge potential and outbreak force. Nine years of industry reform has brought Chinese film into a new level. The upstream, midstream and downstream of the industry work together to bring the box office to13billion RMB, and the film market composed of45theater chains is undoubtedly the most powerful pushing hand. After nine years of exploration and cultivation, powers of different assets and background combined with their own reality, forming distinctive film investment and development patterns. These patterns work together to sketch out a new growth gradient of the film terminal market, cinemas of high-quality, chain management brand based on high-quality cinemas, cinema investment corporation and theater chain become the driving force of Chinese film development.By introducing the general situation of some cinemas in Hohhot, this paper demonstrates the cinema address, operation timing, theater chains joined in, market positioning, cinema structure and layout, number of employees, cinema equipment, price of ticket and publicity. In addition, it also analyzes cinemas’operation condition, and puts forward suggestions.No investigation, no right to speak.300questionnaires were distributed at random, by analyzing these questionnaires, the author gets an accurate and intuitive understanding of the constitution of film audience, their viewing habits, film projection and distribution in Hohhot cinemas, and provides some practical suggestions for the development of film market of Hohhot.
