The Xishu poet is a group of creative writers with similar artistic pursuit. This is related totheir similar cultural background and taking Wen Tingyun and Wei Zhuang as their mentors inlearning. They lived in Sichuan, which was a relatively stable region with less war and moredeveloped cities, providing a breeding ground for the creation and prosperity of the word.The Xishu culture is continuation of the late Tang Dynasty culture, which ischaracterized by prevalence of Taoist culture and luxury banquet atmosphere. The literati wholived in that period had lower political initiative and higher desire in pleasure-seeking.Articles created in the feast were much more favored by them. The common features of theXishu Poet were manifested the in using concise language to express rich content clearly,using elegant word to describe the separation and reunion in love story. The romanticMan-woman Love is the most common theme of Xishu Poet’s work. The people expressedtheir love and hatred fearlessly and sincerely in articles, which are reflection of their real life.They were even more open than people today to present lust things in their work, such asglamorous young girls with soft and smooth skin. Similar pursuit also leads to some uniquepersonalities of those poets. Wei Zhuang prefers to recall the past to cherish the memory ofold love. Niu Xiji was good at blending emotion with scenery, expressing himself by writingscenery. Sun Guangxian and Niu Qiao were more inclined to widen their articles themes fromcommon ones such as love which is approaching the poetry’s mainstream.Articles in Xishu are characterized by common features accompanied with diversity. Inthe beginning, the Xishu Poet is disapproved for limited subjects of their article. But theiradventurous attempt and outstanding work did contribute to the development of Ci.
