The writing and publishing of the biographies of modern and contemporary Chinese poets becomes a trend since 1980s. Some of them have the nature of academic ,other than the popularity and expendability of ordinary biographies of the celebrities. The writers of these biographies usually have the identity of scholar,literary historian or theorist in poetics, and most of them are precise on the writings of the biographies. This thesis researches on these biographies of modern and contemporary Chinese poets. The richness and self-sufficiency of these biographies makes my research feasible. Basing on the intertextuality between the biographies of the poets and their poems, the research of these biographies must have the values of poetics. The disciplines concluded from the research and the problems found in the biographies may contribute to the writing and criticism of the biographies.Besides the preface and the epiloge, this thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 analyses the biographies of modern and contemporary Chinese poets on their natures of poetic research. The biographies of modern and contemporary Chinese poets may include the following: poetic criticism,study on the poets and the research of Chinese modern poetry history. Chapter 2 investigates internal element in those biographies of modern and contemporary Chinese poets which contains the using of the poems in the biographies,the visual historical materials and poetic geography. Chapter 3 focus on the texts of the biographies of the poets. In this part, I want to analyze the literariness of the biographies and the important phenomenon that one poet has several biographies. Chapter 4 focus on the writers of the biographies of the poets. I try to examine the Subjectivity of the writers and the will to Truth in the poetic biography writing . Chapter 5 is composed of case study and close reading of the biographies. We may understand the functions of the biographies in the poetic research and find the problems in the writing of the biographies in these years.
