Impressionism arose in a special social background. In the second half of the19th Century, France abolished Monarchy and established the Republic. Thanks for the advance of the Industrial Revolution and the modernization of daily life, French society became very modern. The French art lagged behind the social change. French Academy of Fine Arts and the Official Salon was even more conservative. The young Impressionists were not willing to be bound by old convention. They learned from established painters modestly and experimented boldly, and finally established their own artistic style-Impressioni sm.Chapter One of the thesis discusses the changes of French society, including its politicsã€economy and daily life in the second half of the19th Century. The thesis argues that Impressionism art reflected these social changes. Chapter Two discusses the professional environment of the new Impressionists, including the cultural environment of Artã€Salon and the French Printing Academy in the second half of the19th Century. Chapter Three studies the life of some famous Impressionists, including their early years of studyã€painting apprenticeship in Paris and develop their own art style, and the formation of Impressionist characterist ic. Chapter Four focuses on several Impressionists’poor life before they became famous and art exhibitions they organized.
