The dissertation comprehensively collects materials of Neolithic sculpturingfigures in the zones along the Yanshan Mountains. By typology research, thedissertation attempts to explore the inner meaning.The full dissertation is divided into six parts:Chapter1: the basic materials and opinionsDefines the spatial and temporal scales of this paper, and combs the Neolithicsculpturing figures found in the past and academic research.Chapter2: Classification and MorphologicalNeolithic sculpturing figures in the zones along the Yanshan Mountains can bedivided into two classes: round-carved figures and relief faces; According to thedifferences in materials, round-carved figures and relief faces can be separatelydivided into three types and five.Chapter3: stage and the chronological frameworkNeolithic sculpturing figures in the zones along the Yanshan Mountains can bedivided into four developmental stages:1, the Xinglongwa Culture stage (BC.6000-BC.5000);2, the Zhaobaogou Culture stage (BC.5000-BC.4500);3, the Hongshan Culture stage (BC.4500-BC.3000);4, the Xiaoheyan Culture stage (BC.3500-BC.2500).Chapter4, the function and natureThrough meticulously research, I believe that:Round-carved figures of Type Aa were the kitchen god and the fertility goddessof the original ancestors; Round-carved figures of Type Bb were "props" when the Hongshan ancestorsheld high yield witchcraft;Round-carved figures of Type Bc were the fertility goddess, the agriculture godand Mother earth god of the Hongshan ancestors;Round-carved figures of Type Bd were the fertility goddess of the Nanbaoligaotuancestors;Round-carved figures of Type C were identity maker objects of the shamans inthe Hongshan Culture, as the same time, were instruments by which the shamans heldwitchcraft ceremonies;Only a few relief faces of Type Cb were masks shamans wore when they heldwitchcraft activities, while most relief faces of Type Cb were God even or decorationson shaman clothes.Relief faces of the other Types except Type Cb may be God even or decorationson shaman clothes.Chapter5, the regional characteristicsBy comparing with the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the middle and lowerreaches of the Yellow River and the Liaodong Peninsula, I believe that Neolithicsculpturing figures in the zones along the Yanshan Mountains have distinctcharacteristics: believing in the fertility goddess, been popular in round-carved nakedpregnant women figures.Chapter6: conclusionSummarizes the main points of this dissertation, and explores the importance ofprimitive religion and witchcraft in social life and the process of civilization of ancientChina.
