As a kind of cross-cultural communication, interpreting is the activity of transmittingand re-expressing between different languages. The information an interpreter should dealwith is so complicated and all-collusive that it involves linguistic, cultural, professional,and also encyclopedic knowledge, which requires the interpreter not only to have solidbilingual foundation, but also the extensive extra-linguistic knowledge and situationalknowledge, as the last two are the unique factors in interpreting.Humor has become an irreplaceable way in the cross cultural communication betweendifferent languages; meanwhile, it has brought many troubles in interpreting tasks forinterpreters because it involves both linguistic and cultural knowledge. Therefore,interpreters frequently encounter unpredictable and unexpected language transformingissues which obviously influence the speed and quality of interpreting.The paper first of all analyzes the humorous characteristics in Joe Wong’s talk show,the analysis corpus collected from certain webpage for this study, and then it proposes somecountermeasures to interpret them. This study is hope to better help interpreters to deal withhumor interpreting tasks.
