Under The Guidance Of Skopostheorie, The Interpreting Of Verbal Humor In American Talk Shows

Because of the differences between languages and cultures,verbal humor which is contained in the source language has always been a nightmare for interpreters.Sometimes the interpreter can translate the literal meaning of verbal humor,but its implied meaning or humor effect is far beyond reach,therefore,this paper will put forward feasible solutions.This thesis first introduces the Skopos theory and verbal humor.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,with reproducing the verbal humor in the source language at the core,the thesis will analyze the consecutive interpretation of verbal humor in the American talk shows,and will illustrates the obstacles in the process of interpretation including interpretation obstacles of cultural humor and linguistic humor.In order to overcome these obstacles,this thesis proposes several feasible interpretation techniques for interpreting verbal humor in American talk shows,such as literal translation,free translation,supplementary approach,omitting and substitution.
