The Growth And Writings Of Female Writers In The "May4^Th" Historical Field

The modern female literature has been defined as "emerging on the surface of history" by some researchers. Female writers of the May4th period and their writings are the pioneer of this historical course."Emerging on the surface of history" means that rather than repeating the tradition of female writing, their writings are part of the modern literature. Not as a large number of writings of obscure ancient women disappearing in history, female writers’works in May4th period highlights its existence and obtain a place in the history of modern literature. Whether the writings of female writers in May4th period had achieved this success, consisting with the definition as "emerging on the surface of history" is the core issue the paper attempting to answer.The paper select four female writers graduated from the Beijing women’s high normal school as object, restoring the historical scenes they had been experiencing through the years on campus. The key factors as modern education and cultural space inevitably affect their writings. This paper outlines four important features of female writers’’works:the consciousness of literature, showing the plight of the "New Woman", reproduction of female space and the influence of classical literature. In the course of explaining these four features, this paper tries to display the effects of the key factors in the growing process of female writers, to identify the variety of factors of May4th historical context reflected in their writings, to judge the attribute of their writings. Defining that female writers in May4th period had moved away from the tradition of female writing, the paper focuses on the contradiction that female writers encounter when they began to initiate a new situation. The "New Culture movement’’deeply affects the creation of modern literature. The early works of modern literature showed a convergent trend to some extent. While from the writings of female writers it can be seen that although they accept the discourse of "New Culture Movement", they retain their own independent thinking and opinions. Female writers adhere to their own unique opinions so their writings show unique value.
