A Preliminary Research On The Tombs Of Sui And Tang Dynasties Of Guangdong And Guangxi

Guangdong and Guangxi is located in the south of five ridges. It was belong to Lingnan road in the Tang dynasty. Lingnan is far away from the ruling center, majesty of the five ridges in the north and south of the vast sea, in this environment which both of close and open, on the one hand, it can delay and weaken the central dynasty’s rule strength and the Confucian culture of central plains’rush to the culture of Lingnan. Such environment for the continuation of the existing traditional cultural provide a safe space.on the other hand, until to the late Tang period, along with the transportation conditions continue to improve and northern people’s awareness to Lingnan is ceaseless deepen, the cultural of the central plain’s influence gradually be reflected in the Lingnan region. As the basic for one to restore that time people’s social living conditions, Guangdong and Guangxi region has been found more than180seats of the Sui-Tang tombs, funerary objects more than1200. These tombs and funerary objects is a microcosm of Guangdong and Guangxi in political, economic and cultural in Sui and Tang dynasties.In this paper, Guangdong and Guangxi region found in the Sui-Tang tombs for the study, to collate information about these tombs, and have a preliminary study. According to the build methods and materials of these tombs can be divided into the pit tomb, brick tomb, wooden outer coffin tomb and cave buried four major categories. Brick tomb is the mainstream of the Sui-Tang tombs of Guangdong and Guangxi. There are several features. First, graves relatively simple, popular throughout the entire Sui and Tang dynasties, large tombs are rare. Second, a small number of funerary objects, work simple, early stage mainly for pottery, late stage porcelain is gradually increased, gold and silver is rare, coins accounted for most of the bronzes, early graves found in more talc pig, late stage disappear. Third, the funerary objects combination mainly for bowl and tank, which is since the Six Dynasties. Forth, figurines are almost no, which is the mainly funerary objects in central plains region. This phenomenon is associated with geographical location and socio-economic living conditions of Lingnan.Sui-Tang tombs of Guangdong and Guangxi are mainly located near the water-land traffic arteries, and because of geographical location and subject to different external culture factors showing more obvious regional characteristics. Specifically, can be divided into northeast of Guangxi, southeast of Guangxi, north of Guangdong, centre of Guangdong, east of Guangdong. Buddhism and Taoism are very population in Sui and Tang dynasties, there outstanding performance in the Sui-Tang tombs of funerary objects in Guangdong and Guangxi, this article has done a preliminary combing. In addition, along with the central dynasty to south of the Five Ridges area’s rule strength different and people funeral concept change, the grave’s form and the number of funerary objects are have some changes.
