Movie, as one of the important media forms nowadays, has become an object ofcultural studies. This paper analyzes the movie the Devil Wears Prada with the help ofGramsci’s hegemonic ideology, and argues that stereotyped female images in this movieare represented in accordance with patriarchal ideology. This movie representsstereotyped female images through disciplined body, oppressed talk and confined life,which proves that even if nowadays females are independent and intelligent, their lifeare still regulated by a set of rules in the patriarchal society; what is more, their imagesare also shaped and constructed by patriarchal ideology.According to Gramsci’s hegemonic theory (here means cultural hegemony), for theworks of female genre, men in the patriarchal society dominate women’s ideology bymainly controlling the cultural organizations, such as media forms and education, In thisway, women are disciplined by men. What is more, this movie depicts distorted femaleimages in accordance with male’s expectation, and is the product of patriarchal ideology.
