In the process of the development of the human history, plants are closelyrelated to human life. People put their thoughts and feelings into the plantscontinuously and give them rich cultural connotations in the process of contacting,knowing, and utilizing them, which makes them bear the cultural characteristics ofdifferent countries and nations and reflect people’s values and aesthetic tastes.Vietnam and China are linked by the landscape, and has a long communication inhistory and culture. Vietnam is deeply influenced by Chinese traditional culture;however, with the development of the social history, the two nations give differentcultural connotations to the plants in the process of transforming society andgetting in touch with the nature because of different natural environments, socialcustoms, habits of thinking, aesthetic angles and so on. Especially the culturalconnotations of some common plants reveal distinct national culturalcharacteristics. Language is the carrier of culture; different languages reflectdifferent cultural connotations of different nations. Starting from the perspective ofthe cultural connotations of some common plants under the background of thesetwo nations, this paper analyzes the cultural connotations of the plants from poetry,ballad and proverb of the two nations, compares the similarities and differences,and discusses the main factors of them, which gives readers a better understandingof the national cultural characteristics of Vietnam. And the effect of cross-culturalcommunication can be improved.
