A Research On The Folk Features Of Shennongjia Series Novels Written By Chen Yingsong

The paper is based on the novels of Shennongjia series written by Chen Yingsong since2000in order to find out the reasons why they have achieved great success by analyzing the folk features of the backgrounds, materials, figures, themes and languages in his novels. His success results from his focusing on the folk features of his works, which further indicates a great work with everlasting vitality is tightly bond with local and national features. When writing the novels, Chen Yingsong focuses on inheriting and spreading the traditional value of Chinese realistic literature and achieves great success through the novels full of folk features which reflects social life and shapes characters. That inspires other authors’future composing to some degree.There are six sections in the paper. Section One:introduction, which summarizes the already existed research results on Chen Yingsong’s Shennongjia series novels, comes up with a new idea and discusses the folk features of the novels; Section Two:the folk features of the backgrounds in Shennongjia novels, unique natural environment, primitive local conditions and customs, barbaric characters and mysterious local culture. The folk features based on Shennongjia stand out in the novels; Section Three:the folk features of the materials in Shennongjia series novels. Focusing on folk features determines his choice of the materials which are related to mountainous areas. Therefore, choosing mountainous areas as the materials means highlighting folk features. There are numerous local folk stories and legends in his novels, and the legendary features are strengthened through his narration with a little bit exaggeration; Section Four:the folk features of figures in Shennongjia series novels. Most of the figures are local and the folkway is pure and simple but the economy falls behind, so Chen Yingsong extracts simple folk figures, ignorant folk figures, folk figures in terms of narrow sense and complex folk figures and these images are pretty vivid. Moreover, the figures in the novels also strengthen the folk features to a large extent. Section Five:the folk features of the theme in Shennongjia series novels. Penetrating into the local areas, Chen Yingsong sees the reality of a poor countryside that Shennongjia stands for and he also shows deep sympathy for those poor people living in misery and the bottom of the society as well as their abnormal mental state resulting from poverty. Meanwhile, he analyses the confrontation between rural and urban areas in depth; Section Six:folk features of the languages in Shennongjia series novels. Chen Yingsong blends the local dialect which has a special feature into his novels. By using dialects, slangs, vivid colloquialisms and languages rooted in mountainous areas, the local and folk features are enhanced.
